playing surface

The playing surface is known as the curling sheet. This curling sheet must be a 146 to 150 feet by 14.5 to  16.5 feet and must be as flat as possible by the world curling federation's rules of curling. At each end of a sheet are two targets called houses. On these targets is are three rings a twelve foot ring an eight foot ring and a four foot ring. If a stone does not touch the outer ring it will receive no score. on the ice there are lines the center line and the tee line. The intersection of the center line and the tee line is known as the button. At major curling events the maintenance of the ice is extremely important. the Ice is usually kept at 23 degrees F (-5 degrees C). The playing surface is one of the most important parts of the sport yet is over looked most of the time.
